KEiiNO is back with the energetic autumn single “Say It Like That” (27.09.24)
Even though ⅓ of the band has been on paternity leave this summer (which has limited concert activity), KEiiNO has still entertained tens of thousands of people at festivals in Norway, Sweden, and Finland. And before the winter sets in, the trio releases a song to keep their audience moving through the cold season.
“Say It Like That” is about a relationship that isn’t the easiest but still feels worth working on. It was written in Helsinki together with one of Finland’s hottest songwriters/ producers, Atso Soivio. The track was recorded in Norway, where producer Tom Hugo deviated slightly from the signature “KEiiNO-sound” adding more live-instruments.
On this record, Fred Buljo doesn’t joik, but supports Alexandra Rotan and Tom Hugo’s vocals. Still, as with many of their most popular tracks, there’s a familiar drive in the music and melodies with a distinct Nordic touch. In “Say It Like That”, even with a hint of country flair..
The use of real instruments in the production of “Say It Like That” might give flashbacks to the guitar-pop sound that ruled the late 90s. However, the mix by Simon Bergseth (Dagny, Astrid S, Karpe, Emilie Nicolas) ensures the song feels very current.
KEiiNO has captivated a wide audience with their unique blend of dance, pop, and Sami/Norwegian traditional music since debuting in 2019. They won the public vote at Eurovision 2019 and have over 160 million streams across more than 30 releases. The trio has topped the Norwegian sales charts, reached #2 on Spotify’s Global Viral Chart, earned five platinum records, seven Scandipop Awards, two Sami Music Awards, and a Norwegian Grammy (Spellemann) nomination. They’ve toured the UK and Australia twice and performed at major events like Pride in Stockholm, Madrid, and Cologne.
