My name is Dwayne Wyrwas, and I am 53 years young. I am Canadian living in Toronto, Canada. Toronto is Canada’s largest most diverse city in the heart of the country. I was born and grew up in a small city called Sudbury, 4 hours north of Toronto, which is in Northern Ontario.  I work in the healthcare field as a Regional Director with a company that owns and operates Long Term Care Homes for seniors (Nursing Homes). I am married to my husband of 13 years, Luis Malave Loaiza, who is originally from Caracas, Venezuela.

When a bunch of amazing people…

Under normal circumstances, I would not be able to go very far from home so I never thought I would be going to see KEiiNO playing live unless they were playing on the lawn in front of my house. But because a little bunch of absolutely amazing people have chipped in in different ways, a huge dream is now all of a sudden coming true, more or less out of the blue, and I am now going to Kristiansand later today, to be at the KEiiNO concert at Bendiksbukta at 7pm. Am I happy? YES.

The Summer of my Life

Summer 2019 was very special for me as it was the summer I completed my bachelor studies and I got to travel solo for the first time in my life. I travelled by plane alone for the first time as well and got to visit my internet friend – Camilla, in Norway, which became my dream city. Even though I spent only three days there, it was THE summer of my life as it changed a lot of things for me, especially in the way of living alone with myself and getting out of my comfort zone.

Like many others, I discovered KEiiNO during Eurovision 2019. During the Eurovision period, I watched quite some interviews and videos and I remember seeing and liking them a lot in those videos. During the final, I was talking over WhatsApp with friends, and I actually looked up what I said about them during the voting, which was “What is Norway doing so low?”. I’m still happy about the televote correcting the jury score to this day.

The reason why I became so passionate about them, and eventually starting following them on Instagram, and listen to their music on Spotify was because I, like them, share a very similar story of always being told, as a child in school, that I was not good enough because I was different from the rest of my friends. So when “Spirit in the Sky” was released, I was overjoyed because not only are Alexandra and Tom the greatest vocalists of all time, but Fred and his joiking was a welcoming bonus! I knew about Fred previously from listening to his Sámi rap group, Duolva Duottar!

Like many fans, my first taste of KEiiNO came at the Norsk Melodi Grand Prix final in 2019. I was live-blogging the event for Eurovision Ireland (www.eurovisionireland.net) and despite having heard the hype around Spirit in the Sky, I’d deliberately avoided listening to any of the songs in the selection so that my reactions to MGP were genuine first impressions.

Adult Fandom of KEiiNO – Diana Oakes

I discovered KEiiNO on You Tube and the Spirit in the Sky video wasn’t actually the first thing I saw. I have family in Norway so have always been interested in Norway’s performances at the Eurovision. In 2019, I was searching online to see who would represent KEiiNO and came across the name of KEiiNO then on YouTube the first thing I saw was their vlog from the Sámi kindergarten, which was, coincidentally, filmed on my birthday!

It was May 18 2019, the evening of the ESC final. My husband had to go early to bed because of his work and I was trying not to make a lot of noise. But then KEiiNO appeared on the screen with “Spirit in The Sky”. The volume was increased. I was sitting there, staring at the screen, it felt like I was in the audience and was cheering to “Spirit in The Sky”.

Adult fandom of KEiiNO – Karina Brandt

Like so many others, I discovered KEiiNO in the Eurovision in Tel Aviv in 2019. Their music instantly ignited a flame inside me and made me want more. At that point I was most of the time in bed because of severe illness, so I spent a lot of time on my phone, reading articles and interviews about KEiiNO and the individual members, and the more I read, the more I felt alive. They all had stories of their own struggles to tell, and somehow reading all this while listening to “Spirit in the sky” and “Shallow”, which at that point were their only two songs, I came back to ‘life’ and after some months, where things really started to improve, I felt an urge to give them something somehow.
